In 1995, électronique d2 acquired La Cie, and later adopted the name 'LaCie' for all of its operations. You'll receive a message indicating that the volume index was removed and will be rebuilt immediately.LaCie began life as two separate computer storage companies: in 1989 as électronique d2 in Paris, France, and in 1987 as LaCie in Tigard, Oregon (later Portland, Oregon), USA. This tells the system to erase the existing Spotlight indices on your *current startup disk*, which should be your LaCie.
LACIE BACKUP PASSWORD
Press Return, type your Admin password when prompted for "Password:", then press Return again. I would try that again and then if you succeed allow the drive to fully re-index before restarting from another disk.Īnother way is simply to open Terminal and copy & paste the following command I'm not sure why it wouldn't move you should be able to drag it into and out of privacy.
LACIE BACKUP MAC
*It would not move from there, so I then deleted it.* Then I rebooted using the mac HD. Dragged the LaCie icon from the desktop to the privacy box.

Then opened the privacy tab (which had nothing in it). It just creates a fresh index for the files on it.Ģ. I assume it doesn't remove the erase the hd and I have to do a new backup or does it? But does it compromise any functionality?ġ. If you're not touching the computer and it keeps doing that something is wrong. It's possible depending on what operations you're doing. I will say that the LaCie still blinks every 10-15 or so minutes for a few seconds (maybe that is normal?). I am never away from my Mac for more than about 3 hours 😉 I believe Apple recommends that you if plan to be away from your Mac for 3 days or longer to shut down but takes no other position on the 24/7 issue and likely cannot for legal reasons. There are those that claim that shutting down is better for your Mac and those who believe there's less stress on the system to stay up & running. And, yes, I am one of those who believe there is less stress on the hardware and less chance of file system corruption. Then, I hate to wait, I like my Macs ready to go a move of the mouse. I have SuperDuper "Smart Backups" scheduled for the wee hours while I'm sleeping.Īlso, I found out long ago, the moment I shut down, I remembered something I hadn't done and had to boot up again. I run my Macs & drives 24/7 because it suits my purposes. Yes, I merely stated that to say that connected drives shouldn't affect your system. TM 24/7? Yes and no, right? I mean it really depends on how TM is being used. Personally, I wouldn't trust it to do a system restore. I only use TM because sometimes I toss an email or a file I wish I hadn't. TM is not bootable so it's useless to recover from a disk failure without your system disks.

TM is strictly an incremental backup not a clone. We need to make a distinction between a backup and a clone.
LACIE BACKUP UPDATE
I don't update my TM too frequently I use it as a clone backup.
